Responses to Readings III

1) Alison Zhang at the University of Rochester has a terrific site that explains everything you need to know about file formats. Of the major software sites she lists, which is "the "planet's largest software site for Windows"? Please provide the URL below.

2) HTTP (hypertext transport protocol) is one of seven protocols commonly used on the Internet. The other six have equally distinctive markers. Provide a URL where I will find an example of a file using each of the other six. I got you started.

You might want to start at the interface design link on the syllabus page, May 11. You'll find the answers on Alison Zhang's site, too.

4) Go to Eastgate's corporate site and find an article on hypertext theory. Start by clicking on the About Hypertext link on the homepage. In the box below, provide the url of the article.

In the box below, provide a citation in this format:

author, title or article, online publication name, date

and then summarize the article in fifty words or fewer.

5) Using a search engine, find Jorn Barger's Hyperterrorist's Guide to Hypertext. Provide a short quotation (and the URL) that states or explains a topic, rule, or issue.

Provide another short quotation (and the URL) from the Eastgate site that directly contradicts Jorn's.

Extra credit: find one from the Yale Style Manual that takes a third position on the same topic, rule, or issue.
